Experiential Wayfinding Study
SEPTA is partnering with the University of Pennsylvania Center for Safe Mobility to study how people navigate our transit network with eye tracking glasses. This technology allows us to collect data from actual travel experiences by shadowing real users. We are able to collect information on where people are looking for information, identify pain points, measure stress levels, and locate wayfinding gaps. The project is being conducted at SEPTA’s most confusing transit stations with a diverse range of participants with mobility, sensory, cognitive, language, and experience differences.
The principal investigator is Dr. Megan Ryerson, UPS Chair of Transportation in the Department of City & Regional Planning, and Electrical & Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). The study is under the approval of the Penn Institutional Review Board.
